lasering perspex

Here are some results of a few tests we’ve done on the laser cutter: epilog mini 24

This machine can cut through materials such as wood, Perspex and cardboard, by the use of a laser.

At first we did a test with a piece of cardboard as a test to understand the way the machine cut out forms to understand which part will fall out and which part will stay together.

Here we are cutting out a form out of a 14 mm thick Perspex to cut through this form we had to adjust the focus of the laser, under the top surface of the material. Because of a slow cutting speed just to get through the thick material made the thin parts of the object thinner than usual so this has to be taken in to consideration while designing a form for a thick material.

Here we are making prototypes out of perspex we designed this shape in photoshop as black and whites and transformed into fectors. This design has organic forms although when you want to use geometric forms it would be better to use a program where you directly can design in fectors

Special thanks to Joris the lab manager of Potospace for helping us with technical support
