Miscegenation
Miscegenation
We are all the same, though all different. Over time we will
become even more equal, yet just as diverse.
About 400 years ago our ethnicity was defined by where we were born. The colour of our skin, eyes and hair could tell a lot about where that was. Through colonization that started to change rapidly. Now, people travel, immigrate, emmigrate, adopt and exchange like they never have before. The world is ours and it’ s still getting smaller and smaller. When talking about globalization some might call it the McDonaldization of the world. But how about the homoginization of the human race? If we keep on mixing like we are now, we might be going towards a world without races, at least on the outside. Hitler thought that was a bad thing. I disagree. Cross racial breeding makes us stronger genetically, more healthy. And since health is one important aspect for beauty, aren’t we getting prettier?
All in all, there’s nothing we can do about it. Despite some racistic actions to stop it, miscegenation (the mixing of races) is a fact. I designed a candle, based on a family tree. The branches represent the percentage of all different skin colours in the world. So when the cande is burning, the wax will blend together untill you cannot tell the difference anymore. I could imagine to see this tablepiece design burn during informal political dinners in countries where racism is still very present. The Apartheid in Africa or the Caste system in India are just a few examples.
