Plexiglass Model
For the making of an architecture model we needed a number of delicate plexiglass pieces. The laser cutter helped us doing this.
For some reason, some lines in our drawing were double, which we only discovered later. The laser cutter cut two times, and that burnt the plexiglass. We still don't really know why some of the lines were double, they were not double in the Vectorworks file that we used. When we exported the file from Vectorworks to get an eps file, something must have gone wrong. But we don't know what. The polygons were fine, but the rectangles were double.
Our plexiglass sheet was exactly 30x60 cm, the maximum size, and 3 mm thick.
We found that for the sheet we used (3 mm) the minimum thickness of a cut out piece is 1 mm. If a piece is thinner than 1 mm it breaks easily afterwords.
We found out later that the bottom plastic film on the plexiglass should have been kept on. This protects the plexiglass from burn marks. But the top layer should be taken off.
Except for some burn marks on the plexiglass, the pieces came out great, and we could use them for the making of our super slick model.
