My first Fablab moment

Hey there,

I’m Mark and I will tell you a little about my first FAB LAB moment.
Earlier on, I heard about 3D printing and that kind of new technologies.
So I wanted to test that for m self.
Because I learnt on the internet about the up and down sides of 3D printing, I knew what to test.
For me it was all about detail, smooth surfaces and slide curves.
Therefore I made an STL file of an model railway train called DH-1
First thing I learnt was that STL files can be given a color just before you print it.
That’s possible with the Z corp software. So STL files don’t have to be printed in that boring white color. Further it went like they show you in the internet by Z corp.
And then the result.
A wall thickness of 0.7 mm is accomplished! Okay you have to be cautious as…. Yes that. But it can be done.
Details of less than 0.3 mm are actually not visible anymore because the disappear in the unevenness’s of the surface. But I expected that already, because I wanted to look for the edges, and now I found them.
And than Last but not least the price. I was surprised about it! But then in a positive way.
So If you like to try to make something small? Don’t hesitate about the price.

On the photo you see 2 little cabins of that DH-1. With a fully professionally made one beside it to compare.
Size of a cabin: 18 X 10 X 17 mm

With kind regards,

Mark <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
