Parts for a prototype.
I'm building a prototype for a new kind of crochet fabric
creating machine. Mostly I'm building it by hand. But this part
needed critical dimensions. So I used the epilog 24 laser cutter
to cut it in exact proportions.
The structure is needed to support the pens for the crochet process.
I use PVC pipe as pens.
Because the laser cutter can not cut very thick materials, I opted
for a layered design. I've cut four layers of 4 mm thick MDF to form
one unit.
I made use of the holes to center the four layers.
The epilog 24 laser cutter uses different settings for different
materials; Paper goes very fast, but 4 mm MDF goes rather slow. It took
25 minutes to cut 5 pieces. The settings I used where: Speed 6, Power 100,
Frequency: 500 Hz.
Last but not least, I really enjoyed my time at Protospace. There where
lots op people with interesting ideas, and the staff where attentive and
kind.
